The Duration of Unemployment in Sub-Saharan Africa: Study Using Microeconomic Data from the Republic of Congo

Abstract
This article aims to analyze the factors explaining the duration of unemployment in Congo. To do so, we opted for a logit model with a limited dependent variable. Using data from a survey conducted by the Laboratoire de recherches et d'études économiques et sociales du Congo (LARES) in partnership with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in 2018), we show that the duration of unemployment in Congo is explained in part by job search intensity.This finding has implications for economic policy. Moreover, this result can be further developed in the future by conducting an analysis of the gender determinants of unemployment duration.
