Analysis of the Determinants of Pesticide Use by Farmers in the Republic of Congo
Abstract
The objective of this work is to analyze the determinants of pesticide use in the Republic of Congo. So, data from the ESA survey (2011) and a logit model are used. The results obtained show that the area sown and contact with extension services significantly influence the use of pesticides. Area sown has a negative effect on pesticide use and contact with extension services has a positive influence on pesticide use. However, factors such as age, experience, income, production achieved, sex, level of education and membership of an agricultural association have no significant influence on the use of pesticides.
